On a serious note, the kickout or just the way you exit the wave is one of the most neglected aspects of surfing for beginners to intermediates. It probably has alot to do with the use of the leash. Surfing without a leash will FORCE you to exit the wave with control of your board or make you a better swimmer.
As far as kicking out you will need a little speed and finishing high on the wave to gracefully exit the wave by weighing your rear foot and unweighing your front foot as you pivot and steer your board up and over the wave.
If you are too low on the wave as you start your kickout the top of the wave may close out on you before you finish the kickout. (Sometimes I will just flick my board up and over the wave when that happens)
Another way to exit the wave as the wave is closing out on you is to grab the nose of the board and pulling it and yourself into the wave and out the back.
The way you exit the wave says alot about you as a surfer.
