I own both. The Rapier is a cruiser with a lot of capability (can be ridden off the tail quite handily). The H3 is (in the words of Silly Old Surfer) a tuned up Rapier (when ridden single). I have found I like my H3 better as a single. As a 2+1 it requires rather more precise foot placement than I was capable of until I put a tailpad on it (I kept digging a rail). I have heard that the Quad is much better in terms of this.
The long and the short of it is: Get a Rapier if you want to cruise. Get a Quatro + 1 if you want more HP and the ability to still cruise (but not as well as a Rapier). If this is a fat H3, you will enhance its cruising ability when ridden single, but I would retrofit it for quad to get the most out of the high perf end of an slightly oversized (for you) board.
In the end the H3 gives you more versatility - especially if converted to quad. And you've found one that is available presumably at a price you are willing to pay? And with a little more float which should ease things a bit. I'd say jump on it.
Only caveat: If you are concerned about your ability at all (doesn't sound like you should be) then the Rapier is a very forgiving board and you can still get pretty flashy with it. It is my favorite board. Of course I really am a disgrace to the sport, and need as forgiving a board as I can get.
