I probably get more 'big wave' time up here than you silly SoCal guys so I will chime in...
I have two HP 1's, a newer one and a '03, both 9'6" and both fit me to a 'T' band.
The '03 has been broken, buckled and snapped, skinned and then skinned again, it weighs a bit more than the newer one but that seemed to help with the chop on bigger days. Both run the 10" HP fin, all the way up when the surf is smaller and set in the middle/rear of the box when its bigger.
Both boards have seen 15' waves and never faltered.
I have a Quatro but it blew my budget and I only ride it on special days, not wanting to put it into Oregons' board breaking surf.
The difference I feel between them is small, the Quatro is great in waist high perfection and its ok when it gets steeper. The HP 1 doesnt seem to care, it just goes and is very rideable in everything Oregon has.
Probably the best all around shape I have ever ridden in 41 years of surfing.
And it noserides...
( I even borrowed the outline for a SUP I shaped)
